NISKAYUNA, N.Y. – The Town of Niskayuna had a major water main break Thursday night, interupting water delivery and closing several roads.
According to Niskayuna's Town Supervisor Joe Landry, the break itself is in the vicinity of Mohawk Road causing flooding concerns. Mohawk Road remains closed at this time due to road damage, but Rosendale Road is now open.
The majority of water has been restored to residents, however boil water advisory is in effect for the entire town for safety precautions. "If you will be using the water for any drinking purposes or cooking purposes we advise you to boil the water. If you are just taking showers then there's no need to be boiling the water," Landry says.
As of Friday morning, crews remain on scene working to repair the break using a replacement pipe.
Landry says the cause could be the weather; a thawing and freezing cycle.
The break happened around 8 p.m. and should be fixed late Friday morning.
