ALBANY, N.Y. – Thursday, the Lt. Governor was on stage talking about GlobalFoundries' impact on the region and new $2 billion investment they're about to make.
The billion dollar project would expand upon the Fab 8 campus in Saratoga County, adding a new technology development center.
Lt Gov., Robert Duffy says the end result is 1,000 new high-paying jobs in the facility and a revitalized economy in the Capital Region.
"This is all a part of the governor's plan to remake the economy in upstate New York," said Duffy.
Also, a part of the economic plan for upstate New York are proposals for casinos, and an aggressive marketing campaign to push upstate products like cheese and greek yogurt, and promote tourism.
One part of the governor's message in the state of the state really comes down to what we're talking about here.
"This approach we started in New York, because of the vision in the state in NY by Governor Cuomo. To bring businesses to NY -- and NY needs businesses," said Ajit of GlobalFoundaries.
The state is banking on Global Foundries' new investments to have a lasting impact on the economy as more jobs are created and the company helps the Capital Region and the state of NY develop and build in the tech sector.
GlobalFoundries has even hinted that the Fab 8 facility could expand, and the expansion would benefit students in the area who are graduating.
