ALBANY, N.Y. - As more New Yorkers are diagnosed with the flu Governor Andrew Cuomo held a press conference at the Capitol Thursday to stress flu prevention.
"This is important," Cuomo said as he sat down with members of the State Department of Health.
Department of Health Commissioner Nirav Shah says there have already been more than 19,000 reported flu cases in New York this year. That's five times more than last year's reported 4,404 cases.
Shah says there have been two pediatric deaths from the flu in the state, and urges everyone to get vaccinated if you haven't already.
Cuomo, leading by example, received his flu shot from Commissioner Shah in front of a crowd of reporters, photographers, and supporters.
"It didn't hurt at all," Cuomo said with a smile right before receiving a Tootsie pop from Shah.
