COLONIE, N.Y. - The Town of Colonie has seen 2,500 jobs created in the
past two years, and following Wednesday morning's State of the Town, it seems they have big plans for
2013.
All over Colonie, businesses are moving in and
expanding. At the State of the Town, Town Supervisor Paula Mahan noted the
financial strength of Colonie and how plans in place for 2013 will only continue
that trend.
"Redevelopment is essential for smart, sustainable
growth. It is only through creative re-use of existing properties that we can
ensure areas previously developed remain fresh and viable," said
Mahan.
That's already in the works at Latham Circle Mall, which
will eventually become the Shoppes at Latham
Circle.
At the site of the recently demolished Starlite
Theatre, change is the message.
With the exciting addition of Trader Joe's to the area,
Whole Foods planning to open at Colonie Center, and a 115-room Staybridge Suite
hotel coming up, Wolf Road has become a one-stop
shop.
But development goes further than just where to shop
and stay. Since moving in back in 2010, Precision Valve and Automation (PVA), a
manufacturing company, has boosted the area's numbers by adding about 200 jobs.
And with expansion on the mind, they expect to hire 40 more employees in the
near future while also hoping to add another 75,000-square-feet to their
building. PVA calls the relationship with the town a
win-win.
"The town and our company were looking to grow
financially, and we're working hand-in-hand with helping the town out with
business," said PVA Director of Operations Jeremy
Prusky. And they're not alone. Marini Builders plans to
construct a 26,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse on Old Niskayuna Road and
to move their corporate headquarters close by, proving that Colonie's best days
appear to be ahead of them.
