
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - A big rescue was made for a little dog Tuesday night in Amsterdam.
The Amsterdam Police Department and Fire Department responded to Lock 11 on the Mohawk River around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday for a report of the small brown dog stuck on the ice.
After several unsuccessful attempts to rescue the dog from shore, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department air boat was called in.
A police diver entered the water from a boat and safely retrieved the dog within a hour.
The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management, Canajoharie Fire Department Technical Rope Rescue Team and GAVAC all cooperated to rescue the animal from the icy waters, as well.
The dog wastaken to a local animal hospital and has made a full recovery.
