Amsterdam man charged with possession of child porn

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - Amsterdam police say a man has been arrested following a lengthy investigation into his possession of child pornography.

Police arrested 44-year-old Richard Smith, of 165 Guy Park Ave. Apt. 3 in Amsterdam, after executing a search warrant at his home Tuesday morning.

Amsterdam Police Department, with the assistance of the New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit, executed the warrant during which police seized several pornographic photos of underage girls.

Smith was arrested and admitting to owning the photos recovered. He's been charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child and possessing a sexual performance by a child and been remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, with bail set at $4,000 cash/$8,000 bond.
