COEYMANS, N.Y. - The intersection of Routes 32 and 143 in Coeymans, just north of the Alcove Reservoir, was the scene of a serious one-car accident on Sunday afternoon.
At around 3:57 p.m. on Sunday, Coeymans Police responded to the one-car accident. Police say all five passengers were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
According to police three people, including two back seat passengers were not believed to be wearing seatbelts, were ejected during the rollover. The driver, 40-year-old Cassandra Ray of Greenville, was not ejected.
The four young passengers, a 15-year-old female, 16-year-old male, 16-year-old female and 18-month-old female were taken to the hospital.
Police say the investigation is still in the preliminary stages, but Ray alleges she was travelling north on Route 32 when she hit a snow drift and left the roadway, striking a guard rail, which caused her Jeep to roll over numerous times, ultimately coming to rest on its roof.
Police say Ray reported taking several prescription medications earlier in the day before driving, and it is believed that this may have impaired her ability to drive safely.
In addition to traffic violations, pending the results of a blood test, Ray could potentially face charges of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.
More information will be released as soon it becomes available.
