New details emerge in Minden dog case

Posted: Updated:

MINDEN, N.Y. – New details have been released in the case of multiple dogs found in poor conditions in Montgomery County.

New York State Police, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Village of Ft. Plain Police Department confirm they executed a search warrant at an address on State Route 5-S in the Town of Minden, N.Y on Wednesday.

According to the NY State Police, the three agencies had received numerous complaints regarding the living conditions of canines that were housed in a barn across the road from that address.

When executing the resulting warrant, officials found the conditions to be uninhabitable for the canines located there.

Some of these conditions included:

  • An unheated and element exposed structure
  • Frozen water
  • A deceased canine
  • Many of the canines lying in fecal matter

This evidence resulted in an immediate removal of over 50 canines ranging in age from puppy to adulthood and mostly of the Pit Bull breed.

This removal was tedious given the number of canines and the numerous shelters and agencies which had to be contacted and coordinated for assistance in housing these animals on a temporary basis along with a veterinarian check of each dog prior to being removed.

Heaters were set up within the barn until all the animals were removed at approximately 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

The canines removed from the structure suffered from various health- related issues which included frostbite, open sores and worms. There is no information yet available as to when or if these animals would be available for adoption.

Officials are still investigating this matter and no arrests have been made at this time.
