TROY, N.Y. - A Troy father and son have been arrested after police responded to their residence for the report of a disturbance and discovered an emaciated dog.

Officers responded to 16 Park Avenue in Troy around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday for a disturbance call when it was discovered that the resident's owned a German Sheppard dog, that was in poor physical condition and unable to walk in the living room of their residence.

Police officers knocked on the door of the residence, which was answered by 26-year-old John Ferrara Jr. Police say he was intoxicated and verbally abusive toward officers. Ferrara told police the disturbance call was regarding his sister who got into an argument with her boyfriend, but that they both left.

Police asked to enter the residence to make sure everyone was safe, when 59-year-old John Ferrara Senior came to the door intoxicated and non-cooperative and refused their request as well. Officers again attempted to make entrance into the apartment, and say both men obstructed their entry.

Officers determined to get into the home discovered the apartment was clear, however found the sickly dog.

Animal control officers responded discovering the dog was emaciated, anemic, had penetrating ulcers on its body, and that both of the animal's rear hip bones were penetrating its skin and completely visible. The dog was transported to the Capital District Animal Emergency Clinic for treatment, where it later had to be euthanized.

Ferrara Jr. has been charged with Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Governmental Administration and Cruelty to Animals (Buster's Law) and is currently being treated at Samaritan Hospital for unknown injuries. Ferrara Sr. is charged with Harassment, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Governmental Administration and Cruelty to Animals (Buster's Law).
