Local mom compares Fiscal Cliff vote to "roller coaster ride"

LATHAM, NY. - Anne Ryan is packing her daughters' lunches in preparation for school starting after the holiday break; A break where Ryan says she's found herself paying more attention to what is going on in Washington than the ball dropping on New Years Eve.

"We stopped right after the New Year and were like 'we're off the Fiscal Cliff, we're off the Fiscal Cliff,'" Ryan said. "I think we were happier about that, than we were the New Year."

She found out a short time later that she got her hopes up a little too soon after learning the House still had to pass the Senate's plan.

Ryan has been on unemployment since October after losing her job in the financial industry. She has been worried she will lose her safety net if lawmakers don't come together. What she says frustrates her, and most likely frustrates many, is the procrastination. She wonders if they are just playing politics.

"Why are we pushing it right to the limit and freaking people out when so many people are scared out of their minds already," Ryan said.

Ryan says this is the first time she has ever been on unemployment. She says she's been working since she was 17-years-old. She has experience in finance, sales and marketing and hopes to find a job soon. She says if the House doesn't agree with the Senate's plan then she'll lose the back-up plan that she has paid into for most of her life.
