VILLAGE OF COLONIE, N.Y. - Three fire companies were on the scene of a fire at the Delafield Drive home of the Village of Colonie's Mayor Frank Leak late Sunday night.
According to Colonie Fire Chief Matt Redick, the fire started in the basement at around 11:00 p.m.
Leak's grandson and wife were in the home and made it out safely, but some pet cats were reportedly killed in the fire.
The home suffered extensive smoke and water damage to the main floor but was not a total loss.
According to Deputy Mayor Thomas Tobin, Mayor Leak is out of town.
No firefighters were injured, according to the Colonie Fire Department.
Mayor Leak is trying to get back as soon as possible, according to family.
