SCHROON, N.Y. – According to State Police, a 47-year-old upstate New York man has been charged with assault after he bit a trooper who had responded to a domestic dispute report in Schroon.
Officials confirmed that troopers went to a home at around 8 p.m. Saturday for a complaint of a domestic issue.
Police say 47-year-old Raymond Smith of Schroon Lake became aggressive as troopers took him into custody, and he bit one of the troopers in the leg. The injury wasn't serious, but Smith was charged with assault, along with resisting arrest, criminal mischief and obstructing governmental administration.
When a trooper deployed taser then Smith became
compliant, but he did bite a radio cord in a police car.
He's being held in the Essex County Jail for lack of bail.
