Rensselaer Co. announces NYE safe ride program

Posted: Updated:

TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer County hopes to avoid tragedy on New Year's Eve by employing a "safe ride" program.

Under the Safe Ride program, the county will partner with Netters Fund to provide free transportation to people within Rensselaer County from bars and restaurants to their homes only, on a first call, first serve basis.

The county will have two county owned vehicles in operation between 11 p.m. New Year's Eve and 2 a.m. New Year's Day. The vehicles will be driven by volunteers from various county agencies.

"Rensselaer County is committed to preventing the tragedies that can occur when people choose to drive drunk, and I am confident that our efforts to prevent drunk driving will help make our streets safer," said Jimino.

Those interested in a safe ride home are urged to call #518-266-7683.
