Drivers get a little something extra on the Thruway Friday

Posted: Updated:

ALBANY, N.Y. - Drivers got something extra when going through thruway toll booths Friday - a red ribbon.

The ribbon is a symbol for the annual Mothers Against Drunk Driving, "Tie One on for Safety" campaign.

Toll collectors gave one to each person that passed by, withone simple message in mind - don't drink and drive.

"We ask that they tie the ribbon to vehicle as a reminders to others as well as a physical reminder to themselves to drive safe and sober," said MADD NY Specialist Michelle Fond.

The campaign is MADD's longest running and most visible public awareness project.

To help the cause, the Thruway Authority will also be posting the MADD slogan, "Drive safe and sober," on message boards along the Thruway through New Year's Day.
