Schenectady Police chief steps down Monday

Posted: Updated:

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - On Monday, the city of Schenectady will be without a police chief.

Chief Mark Chaires is stepping down this weekend, taking a break from law enforcement to concentrate on completing his Ph.D in Criminal Justice.

He announced his decision to leave the department back in June, but Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy has yet to select a replacement to lead the force.

Mayor McCarthy tells NEWS10 he'll name a new chief by either next Friday or Monday.
