Shelters expecting more guests as temperature drops

Posted: Updated:

ALBANY, N.Y. - This week's storm has brought headaches to people living around the region, but for those who are homeless - the cold weather can be deadly.

The temperatures continue to drop Thursday night, and the fresh blanket of snow on the ground isn't helping.

At the Albany City Mission in Albany – by 6 p.m. the crowd was building - as they expect about 20 percent more people to seek shelter tonight.

"We really want them to know there is a place we don't ask questions. Have a hot meal have a change of clothes and they can stay the night," said David Poach, Albany admissions director.

In order to prepare for the influx, mats are ready to be used as beds.

Also, the mission has several classrooms that can be easily cleaned out and transformed into space to hold up to 20 extra people for the night.
