LATHAM, NY. – Just in time for Christmas, a group of 10 New York Army National Guard Soldiers returned home after being away from their families for about a year.
The bus pulled in around 9:45 p.m. Monday night to a small, yet excited crowd.
The group is the part of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, a group of about 100 soldiers. They've been demobilizing at Camp Shelby in Mississippi after many were deployed in Kuwait.
The soldiers performed logistics, administrative and security missions while deployed.
There are still about 200 soldiers that are still demobilizing in Camp Shelby and another 200 who are still serving overseas. They're expected to return to the U.S. later this month or in early January.
