PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Part of a ceiling collapsed at a residence in Pittsfield on Sunday afternoon, striking a one-year-old resident.
The child, a one-year-old boy, was watching television with his three-year-old sibling in the family apartment at 70 Union Street, when part of the ceiling crashed down, according to Captain Garner of the Pittsfield Fire Department.
When the Fire Department arrived on scene, the one-year-old was in his mother's arms, conscious and alert. The mother said the boy had cried for around twenty seconds, but when fire officials arrived, the boy seemed to be acting appropriately, according to the Fire Department.
The boy was taken to the Berkshire Medical Center as a precautionary measure, and the three-year-old sibling was not injured.
The owner of the apartment building offered to arrange for alternate temporary housing, but the family found housing at a motel, without any assistance, according to the Fire Department.
