COLONIE, N.Y. – Colonie Police responded the Colonie Center Mall 'Macy's' for the report of a shoplifting incident on Sunday evening.

When the culprit, Audrea Saunders of Troy, 25, was apprehended by police, she was asked if she had driven to the mall.

Saunders told police she had not driven, despite officers having already discovered that she was in possession of car keys.

Officers, determining her claim as suspicious, searched the parking lot, found Saunders' car and discovered that a 3-week-old baby and 3-year-old child were inside of the vehicle.

The children had been inside of the vehicle for well over an hour, according to police.

Saunders was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of petit larceny.

Saunders was processed and arraigned in front of Judge Peter Crummey and subsequently sent to the Albany County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5000 bail.

Child Protective Services were contacted, and the children were turned over to their relatives.
