Last minute shoppers flood malls, shopping centers

COLONIE, N.Y. - The good news is the weather shouldn't put a damper on your last minute Christmas shopping. The bad news is - you still have last minute Christmas shopping.

On a busy night at Colonie Center, most people seemed to fall into one of two categories: those who were just finishing their Christmas shopping, and those - most often men - who were just beginning.

At the American Cancer Society's volunteer gift-wrapping table, some shoppers offered an apocalyptic excuse: they didn't shop until this weekend because they thought the world was ending on Friday.

Doomsday never came, but the so-called fiscal cliff is approaching so many shoppers are scaling-back.

Retailers are responding by offering deep-discounts.

And finally, what's a night at mall without Kris Kringle? The line to see Santa Claus stretched all the way to Schenectady -- or at least it seemed that way.

Colonie Center is open on Christmas Eve from 7a.m. until 6 p.m. Crossgates Mall is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Individual store hours may vary.
