BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (AP) - Saratoga County officials
are investigating the death of an 85-year-old man who died after being
found outside the county nursing home where he lived.
The county Board of Supervisors said in a statement
that Carlton Decker climbed out the window in his room. But Decker's
family members tell the Times Union of Albany that the explanation makes no sense. Son-in-law John Manolakis says
Decker lived on the second floor and his window only opened about six
inches. He said Decker was found with his walker early Saturday near a
door, and had no injuries that would indicate a fall.
County Administrator Spencer Hellwig said the state Department of Health had been notified and an investigation was under way.
Manolakis said the preliminary cause of death is hypothermia.
