Texts from Hillary:

Created by Stacy Lambe and Adam Smith, the "Texts from Hillary" Tumblr blog featured the secretary of state "texting" with politicians and celebrities with internet slang, pasted over a photograph of Clinton checking her Blackberry.

The meme was discontinued after the duos creation drew so much attention that Hillary Clinton herself met with them.

"After a week that included 32 posts, 83,000 shares on Facebook, 8,400 Twitter followers, over 45K Tumblr followers, news stories around the world, Renee Montagne from Morning Edition saying "ROFL," a Maureen Dowd column, and a tweet from ?uest Love, we think it's time to stop while we are ahead," the last post on the website reads.

Overly Attached Girlfriend:

Laina Walker posted a funny video in response to a Justin Bieber contest in June – and when that video was sent to Reddit and other social sharing sites, she was dubbed the face of "Overly Attached Girlfriend," a meme featuring a stereotypical clingy girlfriend.

Walker continued to portray the character online, eventually landing a spot in a Samsung ad. In September, Reddit and Walker joined forces to debut a softer side of "Overly Attached girldfriend" with a meme named "Misunderstood Girlfriend."

McKayla Is Not Impressed:

This memorable meme of U.S. gymnast McKayla Maroney's face after a fall caused her to get the silver, rather than the gold in the 2012 Olympic Vaulting competition – became so viral even the president was caught doing his best "not impressed" impression.

A photograph of a girl holding Goosebumps books and in a perpetual state of embarrassing surprise debuted on Reddit in March and soon inspired hilarious memes using Ermahgerd talk (or Berks speak).

(*In all honesty we tried looking up an official definition of "berks speak" and after five minutes of utter web confusion – we gave up. Basically you try and mimic the vocal patterns of a 10 year old with gum stuck in their braces.)

Binders Full of Women:

Former Gov. Mitt Romney's views on pay equality for women were challenged by incumbent Obama in the last presidential debate before the 2012 election - leading to Romney's infamous "Binders full of women" quip.

"I went to a number of women's groups and said, 'Can you help us find folks,' and they brought us whole binders full of women," Romney said.

Grumpy Cat:

Tardar Sauce, also known as Grumpy Cat, has become a hit meme full of tongue-in-cheek despair, disgust and dissociative behavior.

Photobombing Stingray:

There's no denying it, a photobomb is annoying in the best of circumstances – but a photobomb by a stingray would be terrifying.

The hit "photobombing stingray" internet meme was posted by on Reddit and the rest of the internet took the time to chuckle at the misfortune of three terrified women.

Ridiculously Photogenic Guy:

The man so handsome, not even sweat would dare mar his beauty!

When he's not busy looking beautiful while mid run, Ridiculously Photogenic Guy moonlights as Zeddie Little, a 25-year-old Charleston, S.C., native and current NYC resident.

According to the Charleston City Paper, the photo was taken by Will King, a computer programmer at the Medical University of South Carolina while Little was running a 10K race called the Cooper River Bridge Run in South Carolina.

After uploading the image to Facebook, King's friend left a comment dubbing Little "Ridiculously Photogenic Guy."

Clint Eastwood/This Seat's Taken:

After a convention shortened by hurricane woes, the RNC was set to close out with guest speaker Clint Eastwood – but then he spoke to a chair.

Eastwood requested a lone chair be placed on the state, the proceeded to ask questions of the chair as if it was President Obama.

While many viewers took to Twitter to try and figure out what exactly was going on, President Obama responded to Eastwood's routine with a photo of himself sitting in a chair marked "The President".

His caption: "This seat's taken."

Big Bird:

For those of us that had a spare Big Bird costume lying around, 2012 was an excellent year.

The big yellow ball of PBS fluff was thrust into the spotlight after GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney confirmed that he "loves Big Bird," but would cut subsidies for PBS.
