Officer agrees to leave job for charge dropped

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - A Saratoga Springs Police Officer charged with assault has agreed to resign from his position in exchange for charges dropped.

34-year-old Edward Braim, a ten-year veteran of the Saratoga Springs Police Department, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault after a reported dispute at a bar on Caroline Street on November 12th.

Braim has agreed to resign from his position, pay up to $2,800 restitution, and under go anger management counseling for six months as part of the deal to have the assault charge dismissed. If he does all this, his charge will be dropped in six months.

Braim had been suspended from the department since the arrest. Two other officers reportedly involved, Mark Leffler and John Guzek, were also suspended after the incident but have not faced any charges and have returned to work.

The 41-year-old victim reported being assaulted by three off-duty police officers, during which a verbal dispute began between several persons inside the bar and then continued outside. Investigators found that Braim pushed the victim into a parked car and onto the ground causing him to sustain injuries to his torso and upper body.
