GUILDERLAND, N.Y. - The Superintendent of Guilderland schools addressed a rumor that students planning an incident at Guilderland High School on Friday, Dec. 21st are unfounded.
In a statement Wednesday, Superintendent Dr. Marie Wiles said the Guilderland Police Department, in conjunction with school administration, have thoroughly investigated this rumor and have determined that there is no credible danger to students or staff at GCSD.
"We have been working closely with the Guilderland Police Department since first hearing of this rumor and have determined that there is no credible threat at this time," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marie Wiles. "However, in light of the recent tragedy in Newtown, Conn., we have requested that the police department maintain a greater presence at all Guilderland schools in the upcoming days."
Even though this particular rumor centered around the high school, Wiles asks that parents at all schools discuss with their children the importance of being cautious with what rumors they share with their fellow students, as well as the importance of being open with information they should share with school officials.
