NEWTOWN, Conn. – Special K9 comfort dogs have been dispatched to Newtown, Conn. to help the students and adults struggling after the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs, an organization within the Lutheran Church Charities, sent handlers and dogs to the small town.

They arrived and first stationed themselves at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newtown, later attending the vigil where President Obama spoke, comforting the children in attendance.

There are six dogs in Newtown currently, and are known as Ruthie, Luther, Chewie, Hannah, Maggie and Shami.
