SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Police in Saratoga Springs say a 22-year-old man was arrested for stealing a limousine from the Saratoga Casino and Raceway while intoxicated and then crashing it.
Police say Tyler Bellick, of Schenectady, was intoxicated when he jumped into a limo at Saratoga Casino and Raceway early Sunday morning and started to drive away with about a dozen women attending a bachelorette party inside the vehicle.
The bachelorette, Michele Swart, and her friends spoke with NEWS10 about being limo-jacked after Michele's bachelorette party this weekend.
The driver was helping Michele climb in when she says the vehicle lurched forward.
Since the driver had just been helping her into the limo, the partygoers quickly realized something was wrong.
A member of the bachelorette party climbed over the limo's divider, grabbed Bellick by the neck and shifted the vehicle out of drive.
The limo then jumped a curb and smashed into another limousine.
Bellick then fled on foot with several of the women giving chase. He was caught by casino security guards and held for police.
Police say he stole the limo in an attempt to avoid using the interlocking breathalyzer device that was installed in his own vehicle after a previous DWI conviction.
Bellick has been charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation, grand larceny and circumventing a court order.
He was arraigned Sunday morning and sent to the Saratoga County Jail.
