NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. – A fundraiser for Bailey Wind, a senior at Shaker High School who was seriously injured in a recent car accident, made waves on Sunday morning in RPI's Robison Pool.
Bailey Wind is a member of the Shaker High School Varsity Dive Team, Flip and Rip Diving and U.S.A. Diving. Her friends and team-mates in the diving community dove this morning in her honor, to raise funds toward her medical expenses.
Shenendehowa High School students Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers were killed, while two others, Bailey Wind and Matt Hardy, were hospitalized with serious injuries after an accident on the Northway on December 1st.
The accident occurred between the Twin Bridges and Exit 8 northbound, in the Town of Halfmoon.
Officials say the students were leaving a sports game when another vehicle, a Volvo driven by 22-year-old Dennis Drue, hit Stewart's Ford Explorer.
Drue's vehicle was operating at a high rate of speed moving his vehicle from the far left lane into the far right lane. Drue subsequently made contact with the rear of the Explorer, causing both vehicles to leave the road, according to police.
"Words can't describe. I'm so glad I'm alive," said Bailey Wind to News 10's Taryn Kane on December 10th. "I tell people I don't want anything for Christmas, I'm just glad I'm here."
