SCHODACK, N.Y. - The State Police out of Schodack are investigating an alleged homicide that occurred on Bri Lan Avenue in Schodack.

Emergency responders were called to 20 Bri Lan Avenue at 4:35 a.m. Sunday morning for the report of an assault. Police arrived on scene and located one female victim, 33-year-old Nikki Hart, suffering from knife wounds.

Hart, of 20 Bri Lan Avenue, was transported to Albany Memorial Hospital and later pronounced deceased.

The Schodack State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation have charged her estranged boyfriend, 29-year-old Jason Guynup with second-degree murder in the stabbing homicide of Hart.

Police learned that the suspect, Guynup, of the same address, allegedly attacked her and then fled the scene. His vehicle was located near the intersection of Hayes Road and State Route 9J where it had been involved in a property damage accident.

Guynup fled on foot and was taken into custody a short distance away, on State Route 9J by the City of Rensselaer and State Police.

Guynup was arraigned in the Town of Schodack Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility without bail. The State Police investigation is continuing.

More information will be released when it becomes available.
