ALBANY, N.Y. (AP/NEWS10) - Police are no longer investigating reports of a weapon at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home on Washington Avenue Extension, near the Crossgates Mall.
City and county officials got a report at about 5:20 p.m. Saturday of
a man with a rifle walking through the halls of the Daughters of Sarah
Senior Community. Albany police spokesman Steve Smith says most
residents were eating at the time and were held in the dining room as
police swept the building. There were no evacuations.
No gunman was found. Police say it was a
miscommunication - people are jittery after Friday's Newtown, Conn. shooting. Smith says police are trained for such calls and would
have responded regardless.
