GREENFIELD, N.Y. - A two-count indictment has been handed up against 27-year-old Joshua McWain,
a Greenfield
man accused of murdering his mother.
Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy says McWain, of 370 Daniels Road Lot 20, is charged with Murder 2nd-degree and Tampering
with Physical Evidence.
The grand jury alleged that McWain intentionally caused the death of his
mother, Carol Stanford, on October 27th. Stanford's body was discovered by the
Sheriff's Department in a shed beneath the floor accessible by a trap door.
Murphy says neighbors noticed Stanford's disappearance and called the
Sheriff's Department to request that officers check on the welfare of her.
Since no one had heard from or seen her in some time, officers conducted the
"welfare check" of Stanford, which ultimately led to the discovery of
her body.
McWain will be arraigned on the charges in the next few days. He is
presently in the Saratoga County Jail on no bail.
