Intoxicated driver charged with vehicular assault after crash


HALFMOON, N.Y. - Just after 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24th, a roll-over accident on the Northway occurred north of the Twin Bridges.

Investigation revealed that the vehicle had been occupied by four people, one of whom was ejected from the vehicle.

The three passengers were taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

Two passengers were treated and released, while the ejected passenger suffered serious physical injury, but has since been discharged from the hospital.

It was revealed that the driver, Anton K. Hawkins, 25, of Schenectady, was intoxicated and that the vehicle was going over 130 miles per hour at the time of the accident.

On December 6th, Hawkins was charged with reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, aggravated unlicensed operation, driving while intoxicated and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

Hawkins was arraigned in the Town of Halfmoon Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail. Hawkins is scheduled to return to the court at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th.
