RPI to host live telethon to support Hurricane Sandy victims

TROY, N.Y. – RPI's students, staff and faculty come together Saturday for a two-hour telethon "RPI's Got Talent - A Telethon for RPI Relief: Hurricane Sandy" to help support victims of Sandy.

"The devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy has had a profound impact on our students and campus community," said Cynthia Smith '96, assistant dean of students and director of pipeline initiatives and partnerships. "Individuals who have embraced the ‘RPI RELIEF – Hurricane Sandy' initiative are focused on raising money and supporting the many Rensselaer students whose families are impacted by the storm.

The live telethon will feature a host of student, staff, and faculty performances between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Event highlights include:

  • Dancers
  • Beat-boxers
  • Slam poets
  • Jump rope artists
  • Pianists
  • Acoustic guitarists
  • A jazz quintet
  • A Barbershop trio
  • Violinists and more

There are several ways to view the program:

  • In person at the Rensselaer Union McNeil Room, located on the corner of 15th Street and Sage Avenue.
  • It can be watched live on the Rensselaer Television Network Channel 3.
  • Viewers can also watch it online here.

Viewers will be able to vote during the performances by text. Individuals can also make a donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief using RPI Relief and the RPI TV websites until Dec. 31.
