SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Saratoga Springs Police Department was the center of attention at a forum held Wednesday night to discuss the way the department handled a rape in the city.
The forum was meant to give the community a chance to address their concerns directly to city officials regarding how the police department handled a reported rape on Sept. 1st. Frustrated city residents lashed out at the department, after learning they waited more than one month to give out details of the unsolved attack.
Lily Manganiello, a junior at Skidmore, says she found it especially disturbing since she explained she had been assaulted in the city two years ago.
Police say the woman was allegedly raped in the early morning hours near the intersection of East and Lake Avenues but delayed releasing that information because, according to them, it could have compromised their investigation.
Police Chief Chris Cole and Public Safety Commissioner have admitted that delay was a mistake.
The event was sponsored by Saratoga Wire, an online news publication.
