BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. - A Saratoga County man has pleaded guilty to Vehicular Manslaughter Wednesday, after he allegedly drove drunk, struck and killed a Ballston Spa teen.

Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy says 22-year-old Gavin Staulters, of Milton, pleaded guilty and admitted that his actions ultimately caused the death of 14-year-old Kari Liedel on July 7, 2012.

Staulters is accused of driving while intoxicated while he crossed onto the shoulder of West Milton Road in the town of Milton, then struck Liedel who was standing on the side of the road with her friend just off the shoulder.

Liedel would have been a freshman at Ballston Spa High School this year.

Staulters is a part-time member of the Air National Guard and Ballston Spa High School graduate.

When sentenced on January 30, 2013, Staulters faces 2 to 6 years in prison or a sentencing left up to the judge, with a maximum sentence of 2 1/3 to 7 years. He will also be subject to a mandatory license revocation and be required to install an ignition interlock device
