TROY, N.Y. – Chestnuts were roasting in the open air during Troy's Victorian Stroll on Sunday afternoon.
Men and women costumed in old-fashioned apparel bustled happily through the cold streets, warmed by holiday music and hot chocolates available in nearby stops.
Local businesses also felt the rewards of the event, outlining a surge in business and investment in the local community.
"The event brings people into the area that wouldn't typically come to downtown Troy," said Kareem Jandali, owner of the Broadway Brew Biergarten. "It's good to have new faces come in. It's going to be a very busy day. We'll be slammed all day."
The reindeer exhibit was especially crowded, and onlookers squealed with delight whenever the animals made movements toward their end of the fence.
"This was a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season," said participant and Delmar resident Susan Phelps.
