CHESTER, N.Y. – Saturday morning a man was shot and killed during a hunting accident in Chester, New York.
Terry Lavergne, 53, of Burdick Avenue in Warrensburg, was in a stationary position in the woods at around 8:20 a.m., about 1.5 miles off of Fawn Ridge Road when he was shot.
He was shot by one of his two fellow hunters in what appears to be an accident, according to the Warren County Sheriff's Office.
Lavergne was shot in the area of his left hip by a single round, fired by a .308 caliber rifle, which struck his femoral artery.
The two other hunters began life-saving efforts at the scene, and moved Terry Lavergne to the road to wait for medical help.
Lavergne was transported to the Glens Falls Hospital by the North Warren Emergency Squad, where continued life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.
No criminal charges have been filed.
Investigation remains ongoing, and an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday morning at the Albany Medical Center.
