SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - According to Canadian Pacific Railway Police, a fatal accident involving a southbound freight train and a male pedestrian occurred after 2 a.m. Friday morning.
Police say the victim, whose name has not been released, was trespassing on railroad property just south of the Amtrak station, near Edison Avenue and Weaver Street.
The accident is expected to affect cargo shipments along the track, but should not otherwise create a rail traffic disturbance.
State and City Police have now left the scene, but are still investigating the reason the man might have been on the track at that time.
