BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. - Wilton resident and former corrections officer Frank Soriano has been sentenced to five years in state prison Thursday for a violent road rage incident in which the victim suffered multiple stab wounds.
Soriano was convicted by a jury last September of Assault 2nd-degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon for the September 2011 attack at Carr Road and Northern Pines Road, near McGregor Golf Corse, in Wilton.
Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy says Soriano became enraged at the manner of driving by the victim, bumped his car from behind, and then
ran up to the other driver and began hitting him.
The victim said "stop" and then defended
himself by punching Soriano in the face, Murphy says. He taunted the victim as he continued to hit him
and said, "hit me harder is that all you've got?" The victim eventually tried to stop the fight and started to return to
his car, but Soriano attacked him again, this time from behind, grabbed him
and stabbed the
victim in the back and left front side. The victim also suffered a slash
wound to his left forearm.
The victim suffered significant blood loss at the
scene, in his car, and at a nearby CVS before an ambulance arrived to take him to a
Life Net helicopter, which flew him to Albany Medical Center. He was released the next day.
Soriano claimed self-defense, but the jury rejected that claim.
He will also face three years post-release supervision.
