Schenectady High School goes on brief lockdown for threat

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Schenectady police say the Schenectady High School went on a brief lockdown Thursday morning after a written threat was discovered inside the school.

Police say they received a 9-1-1 call from the high school around 10:30 a.m. that a maintenance worker had found a note written on two stalls inside a girl's bathroom in the "B" wing of the high school, indicating there was a gun hidden inside a locker located in the fine arts section of the school.

A search of the school by police aided by two K9's found that there was no such weapon. The high school was cleared about one hour later and the lockdown was lifted.

Police tell NEWS10 the lockdown needed to occur as a precautionary measure, although the response to this false threat took up a good number or resources for the hour while legitimate calls were coming in to the station.
