Candle lighting held for Albany stabbing victim

Posted:

ALBANY, N.Y. - More than 100 people arrived at 157 Myrtle Avenue Wednesday night, the mood somber, many standing silently watching the memorial for 20-year-old Tonette Thomas grow. Earlier in the afternoon, the organizers and some of Thomas' closest began to set up.

With floating candles, Thomas' cousin, Nierra Carter spells out Thomas' nickname, "Toe", a girl who many say had a huge heart.

The evening candle lighting began at 9:30 p.m. and lasted for more than an hour.

Tonetta Thomas was stabbed to death at her home on Myrtle Avenue Monday. 29-year-old Michael Anderson was arrested Tuesday night on Lark Drive, in connection with her murder.

Anderson faces a charge of second-degree murder and two charges of attempted murder in connection with the stabbings of Thomas' 26-year-old sister Shaquasia, and aunt 43-year-old Gwynn Carter.
