TROY, N.Y. - Troy Police say they have been advised of a major gas leak at the corner of Congress and Third Streets.

National Grid, Troy Police, and Troy Fire Department crews have addressed the broken gas main and businesses and streets in the area of Congress and Third Streets are open once again, as of noon.

Crews will continue to work in the area, however all detours and street closures have been removed.

The City of Troy reports a gas main break took place during construction activities around 10:30 a.m. In an attempt to remove a tree root during construction, a gas main was compromised causing the break.

The break has resulted in the evacuation of approximately five downtown buildings in the immediate area.
