COLONIE, N.Y. - The Colonie Police Department says they have made an arrest for the arson which occurred on Elm Street on November 15th.
Police say 26-year-old Khadijah Hopkins, of Troy, was originally arrested for burglarizing
96 Elm Street on the day of the fire, but was additionally charged Monday night with
the arson and for the death of a dog found deceased in its crate in the
residence.
Hopkins is an acquaintance of the resident and was aware
that he was not home on the day of the incident. She stole several items from the residence including a
Flat Screen Television, Laptop Computer, 2 Playstation Consoles and several
video games before setting the house on fire, police say.
All of the stolen items except the television and computer were recovered from Hopkins's home.
Hopkins has been charged with Burglary 2nd, Arson 3rd, Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, all felonies, and Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor. She has been remanded to Albany County Correctional Facility
in lieu of $30,000 bail.
