BETHLEHEM, N.Y. - It's not just here in the Capital Region, roundabouts are popping up across the U.S., and RPI has found a way to make them safer.
Eco-luminance unveiled at a roundabout in the Town of Bethlehem Monday.
It uses roadside vegetation with low-level pedestrian and landscape lighting and retro-reflective markers – along with LED road and walkway lights.
It makes roadway edges and pedestrians more visible than under conventional lighting.
Previous tests even showed vehicles approaching the roundabouts more slowly.
