ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The count of paper ballots in two critical New York state Senate races is in the final stages this week, with control of the chamber hanging in the balance.
The seesawing leads continue in the 46th Senate District, where Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk trails by about 700 votes with more than 3,000 votes yet to be counted in her Ulster County stronghold. Republican George Amedore has the lead after being behind on election night.
The counting resumes Tuesday and the race could be decided by the end of the day.
In the 41st Senate District, Democratic challenger Terry Gipson is leading Republican Sen. Stephen Saland in the Hudson Valley with few votes left to be counted Monday.
Republicans held a 33-29 majority going into the election.
