'Playing on the Furniture'
TROY, N.Y. - Troy is opening five new doors in the city on Saturday, as five new independent retailers celebrate their grand openings.
The mass grand opening celebration coincides with "Small Business Saturday," the day after "Black Friday," set aside to encourage consumers to invest in their local economies.
"The foundation of our city's economy rests in our small businesses," said Troy Mayor Lou Rosamilia. "When small businesses succeed, local economies prosper."
The five new businesses are: 'Swinehundt Designs' at 182 River Street, 'Playing on the Furniture' at 272 River Street, 'T and J Soaps' at 271 River Street, 'Design it Together' at 291 River Street and 'Dang That's Cherry' at 11 Third Street.
"Shopping local keeps more needed dollars here in our local economy," said Elizabeth Young, director of the Downtown Troy BID. "And this year, Santa will be spending the month in Troy, available for photos and visits every Saturday at 279 River Street from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.!"
