SCHENECTADY (AP) - A man serving state prison time for attempted assault now faces charges in a Schenectady cold case killing.
Forty-six-year-old John Wakefield was arraigned Tuesday in the death of 41-year-old Brent Wentworth, who was killed in his Schenectady apartment in April 2010.
Wakefield was charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors say Wentworth was strangled with a ligature.
Wakefield was brought to Schenectady County Court from Green Haven Correctional Facility where he's serving 2-4 years for attempted assault.
Wentworth family members have been working with police to encourage anyone with information about his death to come forward.
