GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - A Glens Falls man has been charged with murder after his girlfriend's 5-year-old son died due to injuries allegedly caused by him.
24-year-old Brandon Warrington, of 5 Misson Street, was charged with Murder 2nd-degree, Manslaughter 2nd-degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in Warren County Court on Tuesday in connection with the death of 5-year-old Gary Carpenter. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Warrington's live-in girlfriend and mother of Gary, 23-year-old Jennie Mattison also of 5 Misson Street, faces three felony charges. In Court on Tuesday, Mattison pleaded not guilty to Reckless Endangerment, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Hindering Prosecution in connection to her son's death. Her bail was set at $50,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
The young boy died Saturday after police say they discovered him a victim to assault. Police responded to the couple's Glens Falls home on Friday, finding the boy not breathing. The boy was transported to Glens Falls hospital, and from there, air-lifted to Albany Medical center where he later died from a traumatic head injury.
In court, the Warren County Assistant District Attorney laid out what he calls a case of "long term abuse." With injuries all over the boy's body, including some which indicate sexual abuse.
Authorities say Warrington knocked the boy off his feet, causing a head injury, then hit him again when he wouldn't stop crying. They say his injuries indicate this was not the first time he had been assaulted.
Warrington and Mattison have one child together, a 3-month-old baby.
Both remain behind bars.
