Organizations offer Thanksgiving dinners to those in need

ALBANY, N.Y. - With Thanksgiving just three days away, rescue missions and community centers all around the Capital Region are getting their kitchens ready to feed thousands this holiday.

From chopping countless sweet potatoes, to cooking thousands of pounds of turkey, local missions want people in need to know they have a place to go on Thanksgiving Day - not just to fill their bellies, but to lift their spirits too.

"People are struggling economically, emotionally, and mentally. They need a place to feel safe, socialize and get a hot meal. People need people. We do this work so no one will feel alone on the holiday," says Capital City Rescue Mission's Director of Development Susan Jones.

There are dozens of organizations in the Capital Region serving free hot meals for Thanksgiving. They are also looking for volunteers to help serve those meals, as well as donations. See the list of Community Thanksgiving Dinners here.
