Twinkie lovers raid stores for remaining supply, remember their favorite treat

Posted: Updated:

ALBANY, N.Y. - Twinkies are supposed to last forever, but the company that makes them won't.

Hostess brands has asked a court for permission to close its business and sell off its iconic brands.

Bakery operations are suspended, although the company's retail stores will remain open for a few days to sell current products.

Hostess says it will move immediately to lay off most of its 18,000 person workforce.

This comes after a week-long strike by the bakers union, which was protesting pay and pension cuts.

On top of all those people losing their jobs, many customers will soon be out of luck finding their favorite snacks.

Hundreds of NEWS10 viewers have commented on our Facebook page about their favorite treat.

Ed said, "Truly a sad day in America!!! Twinkies, ding-dongs, ho-ho's and funny bones......no matter what may have happened in your life, they always seemed to make the day better."

And from Kim,"....no more funny bones or ring dings?!? Noooooooooooooooooooooo!"

Margaret says, "Can you freeze Twinkies? I may have to stock up. It's not just the Twinkies; it's the fruit pies, etc... "

"Stock up - they have no natural ingredients, they will keep forever!" said Mike.
