ALBANY, N.Y. - The Election Day ballot recount begins Tuesday in the hotly contested race for the 46th State Senate District seat.
Only about 140 votes separate Republican Assemblyman George Amedore from his opponent Democrat Cecilia Tcackyk in the newly formed district, leaving the race too close to call on last Tuesday's Election Night.
The ballot recount begins Tuesday in Albany County, begins Wednesday in Ulster County and Montgomery and Greene Counties will begin recounting Thursday and Friday, respectively.
However, the race may come down to absentee ballots and while it may take awhile before everything is counted, and anything contested is figured out, the outcome of the race could shift the balance of power in the State Senate. Republicans are now in the majority.
Republican George Amedore has represented the 107th Assembly district since 2007, which shares some of the same areas and issues as this new district.
